I just came back from karaoke!!
We had Ikumi's 21st birthday party today (^^)! I was in a rush to find a present for her because we made a deal to exchange gifts (since our birthdays are actually close - we only celebrated hers late). I went to LoFt around 5pm to look around and I was seriously thinking of getting this electric blue nail polish for her.... but I didn't. Then there was this really nice gold-brown eye shadow which I know would suit her... but I didn't get that either. ... probably because the evil green monster of envy would start growling inside me. LoL. It wouldn't have been very sincere! It was a really nice electric blue... and there was a really nice electric purple in the same series too. I'm probably not going to get it any time soon anyway.
Then I went up a floor and found myself amongst clocks. That's when it hit me. Ikumi's going to Birmingham for a year and she'll be leaving early August. I remembered that when I was weeks before coming to Japan I was fluttering about looking for an alarm clock.... Because it dawned on me that there won't be anyone to wake me up anymore! (The alarm clock I have now doesn't work so well anyway.) So! I found the section where they had all these cute alarm clocks- some looked like dogs, cats, aliens/humans?, and this one in particular which costed 8400yen that looked like a lego on wheels. Hee. It runs too. Literally.
I called up Nazuna to ask her whether Ikumi liked dogs or cats and lo and behold! She doesn't like either. Just like me! (And like me, if she had to choose, she'd choose the cat.) So I got her the cat. It even goes meow when you touch it. Seriously. I think it has motion sensors. Just like my toy flower! But that's another story.
We ended the party very early and decided to go to karaoke - Nazuna and Ikumi had an appointment to go to though. So it was just me, Aurelie, Eriko and Non-chan.
I haven't had so much fun at karaoke in so long! The funniest thing was that Non-chan was so enthusiastic about us all singing Sakura Taisen's Geki! Teikoku kagekidan. Haha. Of all the songs. You know how Japanese are not particularly into anime songs? Well, this was an exception. They didn't mind me singing anime songs much tonight either. (Not that it's something to brag about.) But they were really into that Sakura Taisen song! Hee......
Not through violence, but through the word alone

Brownies
Our friends who will be going off to France this Summer came over for dinner (they take turns cooking and come once every 2 weeks) for their 'study' session. And I made brownies!! Hahaha.... they were really really nice.... I hadn't had any in so long too....
In any case. It's been a slow week. I had presentations and reports to finish as usual. This semester has been like a storm... and I just found out a few days ago that this storm is going to escalate soon. My exams start next month.
I can't believe that it's already exam period.
I also found out recently that I have this tendency to smother in as many plans as I can by the end of a month for the next month. It's okay really, but I also tend to double or triple book with people.
It's weird that I never really needed a planner before coming to Japan.
Anyway, here's a nice music video made with slices of Zettai Kareshi - a japanese drama that just finished last week.
and then maybe search for "best anime cosplay ever" in youtube while you're at it too!
and don't forget to look for Katy Perry's I Kissed A Girl too!!
-actually I'll just paste it here:
the david choi version is really nice too!

We the students of my faculty, received very solemn news on Thursday evening- that one of our seniors had suddenly passed away.
Maeba-san had just come back from Birmingham on Monday morning. He went to our Faculty even, the next day to meet&greet some teachers and friends. He and some friends were just going out to look for a place to drink when he had suddenly disappeared. The police found that he had committed suicide that same night by jumping in front of a train at Rokko-michi. He had only just come back to Japan.
Nobody really understands why he did it. He was a popular person and had so many friends. He was in charge of the camp activities that everybody had to go to in my year, and was very active in Uni - everybody knew him. The professors and the friends who were with him that night are all blaming themselves. Nazuna's in shock, Ithink - she hasn't spent a night alone since and last night she was with me and Aurelie. She said she'd barely slept and pretty much collapsed on the futon last night... and she's still sleeping. She had gone to the funeral, too.

My One Day Off
After a gruelling week that ended on Thursday - we took some time off and went to Tokyo! I finished my presentation, my reports blah blah on Thursday... which was fantastic because I didn't have to worry or feel guilty or anything about going to Tokyo on Friday!
We left on Thursday night with the night bus - Willer Express which was pretty comfortable. It was the first time I had to travel with someone in so long. Farah was pretty curious about a lot of stuff. We left from Sannomiya and arrived in Shinagawa, Tokyo the next morning.
It was 7am when we arrived and so we went to Marlyn's place near Sugamo (by the Yamanote line) to have breakfast and freshen up. We had pancakes too! It's been so long since I've had pancakes - and they had maple syrup too.... it was soooo tasty! We left Marlyn's place only around, close to 10 - which was 2 hours behind our schedule, but we made it around 11am anyway - at Disneyland!
At first, I have to admit that I wasn't too enthusiastic, but when I saw the gate... and then the unrealistically coloured hotels inside the area - I felt the child inside start skipping. =)
We went on Snow White's adventure, the teacups, Splash Mountain in Critterland and the train in Westernland. It was so weird at first because the Snow White ride was kinda creepy. Farah screamed at one point... which led me to scream as well. It was all dark and loud and eye-y and witch-y and branch-y and, well, creepy. It was the first ride we went on so all the screaming made us high... We started laughing our heads off after we got of the cart... which was where I actually allowed myself to go on the Alice in Wonderland teacups.
I have motion sickness! I should've known better, but I got so sick halfway through all that whirling... I'm getting sick now just recalling the ride. I felt like hurling afterwards... until we walked in the Mad Hatter's shop and we got high again trying out the ridiculous hats. I had this Mickey-slash-JackSparrow, basically a pirate hat with Mickey's ears on it, in my hands and I really fell in love with it... but I guess practicality won over. It was too hot for that kind of felt hat. We went to Westernland later on and I bought a cowboy hat instead. LoL.
Splash Mountain is kinda like WaterLog in Brunei - only a little longer and it doesn't once fall backwards. We fell, instead, inside the mountain, into the darkness... where everybody started screaming like the dead. All the while this perky country tune was playing all around us. The last drop was probably the scariest, to me, because just when I thought that we'd be landing, the raft kept on falling, which to me felt like an eternity... but was probably a half-second. Oh well. It was a pretty good ride.
Farah wanted to go canoe after that... at which the thought itself made me queasy. Splash Mountain made me a little motion sick too so I really couldn't think of going on another one any more... so we went for a slow ride... around with the train. It was kinda cute really with all the babies around us. Literally.
Just when we were about to leave Disneyland... we found the 7 Dwarfs!! We took pictures with Grumpy and Dopey... they were soooo cute. Dopey was totally cute!
Anyway, we left Disneyland around 5 and made our way to Harajuku to find gothic outfits for Farah, and we met Marlyn there. We were so tired that we slept on the train, it took nearly an hour to get from Disneyland to Harajuke. Around 7pm we went off to Shibuya to have dinner together with Anni at TGI Friday's. It was so good to just sit down and talk... noisy as it was already. LoL. We had to rush out anyway to catch our bus which was near Tokyo station - half an hour from Shibuya. We left Tokyo last night and now here I am - we've just arrived.
Now I've got to go back to reality and start on my Mansfield Park presentation for next week.
Omg I nearly forgot - we got a free hug in Shibuya. It was so cool. I thought at one point that these two guys hugging enthusiastically knew each other, and then the next thing I knew one of them was carrying a card that said "Free Hugs". Guess what happened when I told this to Farah?
Heheheheheh. Let's just say, if the aim of Free Hugs was to make the world a warmer, happier place - then it might just work. LoL

Starts With One by Shiny Toy Guns
I'm all bleary today- but it's sunny! It's finally sunny. I can't believe the weather forecast said rain for the most of next week... it's disheartening.
Anyway. Farah's here and we've been going around. She arrived on Tuesday and we just sort of walked around a little. Then I had classes on Wednesday morning (and she slept in). We went to Sannomiya in the afternoon. One of my classes cancelled on Thursday so I got to go back earlier but we didn't do much. Hiroshi (my friend from Uni) wanted to meet Farah so we all just went off to eat sushi for dinner and I invited Veronika (from Bulgaria) along with us too. It was a pretty long walk there and back but it was kinda worth it. Aurelie covered for me at work yesterday so we went off to look around Umeda - technically only staying around HepFive, we even went on the Ferris Wheel!
I'm covering for Aurelie today at work so I should be preparing to go off soon. Aurelie was so kind as to offer to take Farah off for Father's Day shopping for me this evening (^_^) so I'm all set.

Darts and Billiards
The weather has been absolutely dreary these days. We barely had several sunny days before it hit June - and now they say it's the rainy season!
I went out for dinner with some friends two nights ago and we stopped by this internet/manga cafe to play billiards and darts. It was kinda weird talking about our projects for the seminars at the same time.... LoL. I had never in my life imagined I would ever be discussing how to evade wars while also discussing how to shoot angles in billiards. It was awkward but fun!
We played darts for nearly an hour and I dominated! Heheheh It was the 2nd time I'd ever played in 'public' but it was really really great. I do admit that though I was constantly aiming at the centre, I kept missing towards the left. What was great was that even so, my darts went straight to the triple-score tiles! I doubt I'll ever be able to repeat this, but it was just utterly fantastic! Heee
